DONOVAN FOR AG KICKOFF A HUGE SUCCESS
Burlington, VT — TJ Donovan, Democratic candidate for Attorney General, was overwhelmed by supporters at the kick-off event for his campaign at the St. John’s Club in Burlington, VT. Estimates of attendance approached the hundreds, resulting in the arrival of the fire marshal at the culmination of the speaking program.
The event was MC’d by long-time Democratic activist and Rutland, VT native, Steve Howard. Speaking in support of Donovan was local Legal Aid attorney Barb Prine, spotlighting Donovan’s commitment to addressing poverty and other root causes of criminal behavior. Also speaking in support of Donovan was Burlington’s Mayor and Hartland, VT native, Miro Weinberger, who echoed Prine’s praise. He emphasized Donovan’s commitment to issues of social justice and his ability to lead by example.
Among the hundreds who thronged the event were former Governor Phil Hoff, many state senators and representatives, local elected officials, public safety officers and community activists from across Vermont. Lending her support was Vermont’s State Treasurer, Beth Pearce, who has prominently added her name to scores of other political figures endorsing Donovan’s run for AG.
“I can’t tell you how moved, humbled and honored I am to receive such strong, early support from this broad base of Vermonters. This campaign is about bringing accountability, fairness, and transparency to the office of Attorney General and rejecting ‘gotcha’ politics. The AG’s office is an important source of leadership that can and should be used to address fundamental problems facing all Vermonters including civil rights, consumer protection, addressing issues around poverty and fighting for a solution to the scourge of opiate addiction in our State.” Donovan continued “My hope is that this campaign can serve to facilitate a candid discussion of concerns, ideas and possible solutions to the many challenges that face Vermont.”
Donovan’s campaign is well-positioned moving into this political cycle, with dozens of seasoned political volunteers and a full-time staffer already signed on to support his campaign.
